Zaanse Schans - Excursions & Informations

Description

Zaanse Schans is a famous village located on the banks of the Zaan River just 20 km north of Amsterdam and is an Ethnographic Park or an Open Air Museum. Here you can see examples of wooden architecture of the 17th-18th centuries. In the 60s, surviving mills were brought here from Zaandam. As a result, small museums - houses were opened.

Five mills adorn the banks of the Zaan today. They are reminiscent of the times when the productivity of the Zaan depended on the strength of the wind. The peasants in the Zaanse Schans live up to their age-old customs and wear picturesque folk costumes. Here you can see how klomps (wooden shoes) are made or cheese is made using traditional technology.

Zaanse Schans is visited by almost all tourists who come to Holland. Mills in the Netherlands are life. One mill saws boards, another churns butter, a third produces the famous Zaan mustard, and a fourth makes paints.

Of course, here you can visit the famous Dutch cheese dairy, where you can not only see the process of making cheese, but also try some of the most popular varieties and, of course, buy.

At the factory of wooden shoes, within 2 minutes, they will make beautiful klomp shoes and offer you to buy them, since it is very useful to wear them.
