Gordes - Descriptions & Excursions.

Description

Gordes is a small picturesque old town in Provence, nestled on a cliff in the Vaucluse mountains, where medieval buildings dating back to the 13th century have been preserved. At the foot of the cliff, but on the other hand, you can see the Senanque Abbey, founded in the middle of the 12th century. One of the most famous lavender fields in Provence stretches along the walls of the monastery.

Gordes

Gordes is a member of the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. The village got its current name in honor of the Gordes Castle. The first mention of the castle dates back to 1031 century. The castle acquired its present form in 1525-1541, after being rebuilt in the Renaissance style by Bertrand de Simiane. Since then, the castle has two faces: a fortified north facade and a south facade in the Renaissance style.
