Marais

Le Marais is a trendy historic district in the 3rd and 4th arrondissements of Paris. The Marais is named after an old marsh area that was first inhabited in the 12th century. Forming a triangle, separated by Place de la Bastille, Place de la République and Place de Ville (L'Hôtel de Ville), it is now one of the most popular destinations in the capital, thanks to its architectural treasures and vibrant atmosphere.

There is really no shortage of bars and gay clubs in this gay friendly area, especially on rue Sainte Croix de la Bretoneri. In addition to these many bars, cafes, restaurants and other entertainment venues that liven up the streets, there are also designer boutiques and contemporary art galleries.

Rue de Rosiers is a major center of the Jewish community in Paris and one of the busiest shopping areas in the Marais. It is full of trendy boutiques, kosher grocery stores, falafel restaurants and other places for food lovers. At 7 Rosiers Street, a memorial plaque was erected in memory of the victims of the attack on the Goldenberg restaurant on August 9, 1982.

The Marais also hides a very rich architectural heritage, including a huge number of 16th, 17th and 18th century.
