Café de Flore

 

Café de Flore is one of the oldest Cafés in Paris, celebrated for its famous writers and philosophers who used to come here for decades. The classic Art Deco interior of all red seating, mahogany and mirrors has changed not much since World War II.

 

 

It is located at the corner of Boulevard Saint-Germain and Rue Saint-Benoît, in Saint-Germain-des-Prés in the 6th arrondissement of Paris: 172 boulevard St Germain , 75006. Tel: 01 45 48 55 26.

The café was opened in 1887. The name is taken from a sculpture of Flora - the goddess of flowers, located on the opposite side of the boulevard. 

The Café de Flore became a popular hub of famous writers, philosophers and painters. So Pablo Picasso was  a regular customer of it.  

 

 

Les Deux Magots

 

Le café Les Deux Magots is one of the most famous and oldest cafés in Paris. “Magot" literally means "stocky figurine from the Far East". The name originally belonged to a fabric and novelty shop at nearby 23 Rue de Buci. The two statues that adorn the café now stand as witnesses to that era.

 

 

In 1873 it was transferred to Place St-Germain-des-Prés to expand. Since that time it is located at: 6 place Saint-Germain-des-Prés 75006 Paris.

Les Deux Magots Like its neighbour Cafe de Flore began to play an important role in Parisian cultural life before asserting its literary vocation in 1933 with the creation of the Prix des Deux Magots award.

Frequented by numerous famed artists including Louis Aragon, André Gide, Picasso, Fernand Léger, Hemingway and others, the café hosted Surrealists under the aegis of André Breton and Existentialists around Sartre and Beauvoir. 

It attracts today personalities from the world of the arts and literature, fashion and politics and tourists from the whole world. 

 

Les Deux Magots is open From 7.30 am to 1am. 

Weekend and public holidays open From 10.30am to 3.30pm.
