Beaune

Description

Beaune. Hotel Dieu.

Beaune is the Wine capital of Bourgundy. It is a city with 23 000 inhabitans, famous for its Medieval Refuge - Hotel Dieu. The famous vineyards stretch in a continuous strip from north to south; ancient Beaune is considered the center of winemaking, which still retains the influence of Flemish culture, especially in architecture.

Beaune. City.

I

n the Middle Ages, the city was protected by a deep moat and a fortified castle, whose bastions and watchtowers still adorn the city landscape, and its ditches and ditches have been turned into squares and gardens.

The sights of the city are

  • hospital-shelter, which annually hosts the world's largest charity fair-sale of wines from its cellars,
  • the church of Notre Dame, which has a rich collection of Aubusson tapestries, and
  • The Ducal Palace and the Wine Museum located in it.

Once erected to protect the city, fortifications have been used for two centuries as storage for millions of bottles of Burgundy wines of the most prestigious brands and vintages. In the city cellars of the XIII century, you can also taste the wines that are made in the vicinity of Beaune: Gevrey Chambertin, Côte de Bon, Côte Nuits-Saint-Georges, Louis Jadot.
